The act of drinking as well as attitudes toward drinking have the power to reinforce community standards\, establish socio-economic boundaries\, and reaffirm gender categories. American beliefs toward alcohol are paradoxical: we grant it heroic status and often drink to excess\, yet restrict its use and blame it for our misconduct. Was this always the case? How did people in the so-called “Dark Ages” feel about alcohol? \nNerd Nite is a monthly event held in more than 100 cities across the globe during which several folks give 20-minute fun-yet-informative presentations across all disciplines.
